CJ Baldry
[The Why] & [The Response]
CJ moved to Gunnedah NSW in 2018 and saw significant opportunities throughout the basin for business. The thriving region of both agriculture and mining, civil and construction, engineering and manufacturing…
“there are not many regional places in Australia which boast so much opportunity and growth” says CJ,
“Gunnedah is a place to do business and scale”
[The Why]
Since 2008 CJ has been practicing as a Registered Nurse, this profession has taken her to the most amazing and interesting places in the world. Amongst her critical care experience which includes working with CareFlight (International) and the Royal Flying Doctors (Domestic) she found herself being seconded into the occupational health space.
From 2011 CJ has worked within the resource mining sector, allowing opportunities to travel through out Australia and has enjoyed working in some of the most remote parts of the world.
-
CJ has been working within and around the consultancy space since 2011, mainly in the health and resource mining sector, as well as construction. CJ says she really enjoys pulling apart in policy documents and making them work hard for the business needs; “If they fail, excellent, let’s improve it and create better outcomes”. CJ has been apart of and lead policy writing groups as well strategic planning and quality improvement initiatives. The areas of thought which really excites her are the human resource sector and health management of employees. “ I am very passionate about the front line worker and their experiences, I am a boss myself, it’s a tough gig and often lonely, however I feel a lot of comfort in the ensuring that a employees are feeling safe in their working environment. A happy worker is a productive worker, an empowered worker is a safe worker and a supported worker will always look after your business.”
-
Since 2011, CJ saw a gap in the larger industry models amongst sub contractor businesses in parent company engagements, she found the company's founders and managers had the best intentions of looking after their workforce, however due to their content expertise was not systems and compliance - the gaps demonstrated risks and exposure to the company and as a result… their employees.
“This is not only expensive for the bottom line, it is also emotionally taxing for all involved, and often has a negative and invisible rippling effect.”
CJ found this exposure often would not present itself until after a significant incident or investigation of system non compliance. The company's were stumped, under resourced and under pressure to either provide a critical response or create a sustainable process within their own systems to offer honest future risk mitigation, she found, these risks were often exposed at the frontline worker level.
“If company's look after their workers, they play a huge role in looking after the community. Community can influence the opportunity of being able to scale and grow business, the domino effect can be detrimental.”
